Paul Rassam has been named the head coach for women’s rowing at George Mason. He had been named the interim head coach of the team in April 2002 when head coach Elena Bratichko was reassigned within the Athletic Department. Rassam had been the team’s assistant coach since November 2000.
“I’m very excited about the future of this program,” says Rassam. “We have a strong core of returning varsity athletes, as well as some talented, enthusiastic rowers moving up from last year’s novice boats. Every athlete is extremely driven, and when they step on the race course, they expect a lot from themselves. With a mental attitude like that, I believe we can produce some fine results with this group.”
Rassam, who has a Level III U.S. Rowing Coaching Certification, was a masters rowing club coach at the Capital Rowing Club in Washington, D.C., before coming to George Mason.
The 2001-02 season was the fifth for the women’s rowing program as a varsity sport at George Mason.
