The 2002 Summer Orff Schulwerk Certification Program for music educators kicks off today in the Performing Arts Building. Music teachers from around the country will be in residence July 8-26 taking courses in music and movement, multicultural music, music literature and teaching techniques, and more. George Mason offers one of the largest Orff certification programs in the United States.
Also taking place in July is the Summer Symphony Honor Band for local high school band students. Directed by George Mason band conductor John Casagrande, with guest conductors Anthony Maiello and Stanley Schoonover, the band will rehearse Wednesday evenings from July 10-24, and will present a free concert on Wednesday, July 31, in the Concert Hall (location subject to change).
