Jennifer Pitts, a third-year law student at George Mason, won the Miss Virginia pageant Saturday night at the Roanoke Civic Center. Pitts, 24, who was first runner-up in last year’s pageant, competed as Miss Apple Blossom Festival. She won $16,000 in scholarship money and the opportunity to represent Virginia in the Miss America Pageant on Sept. 21 in Atlantic City.
Pitts chose raising youths’ self-esteem as her platform. The five finalists were chosen on the basis of scores in talent, swimsuit, and evening wear competitions, and in onstage and private interviews.
