Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Tom O’Connor has been appointed president of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and will serve in the role for the next two years. In addition, O’Connor has appointed Kevin McNamee, George Mason senior associate athletic director for intercollegiate sports, chairman of the conference’s Competition Committee.
O’Connor assumed the role of CAA president in May. The position revolves among the conference athletic directors, and O’Connor, who was vice president the past two years, inherits the role from William and Mary athletic director Terry Driscoll. O’Connor has been the athletic director at George Mason since 1994, after serving in the same role at St. Bonaventure University, Santa Clara University, and Loyola College.
McNamee, who arrived at George Mason in 1995 from St. Bonaventure, where he was the head swimming and diving coach and associate athletic director, will be responsible for administration and will provide leadership within the overall conference in the area of competition.
