Honoring the top student-athletes in college golf at its National Awards Dinner, the Golf Coaches Association of America selected George Mason’s Craig Mason to the PING Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team.
Mason becomes the first George Mason player ever named all-region, as he joins 14 athletes from several schools in the Mid-Atlantic area to make up the 15-man squad.
The sophomore led the team with a combined 72.5 stroke average over the fall and spring seasons, capturing two individual tournament titles and finishing in the top 10 in 6 of the 11 events he competed in this season. He was also George Mason’s top golfer in seven of those tournaments. For his efforts, Mason was named to the 2002 all-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) First Team in May.
Mason has been the university’s most consistent golfer over the past two seasons and was selected to the golf all-CAA Second Team as a freshman last year. He has won four individual titles since coming to George Mason and has placed in the top 10 in 10 of 20 tournaments.
