College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Daniele Struppa has been reappointed to his position through June 30, 2006. Struppa is currently on leave through Jan. 20, 2003. Dee Ann Holisky, associate dean for Academic Programs, is serving as acting dean in his absence.
During his leave, Struppa will spend time in Belgium finishing his current book, meet with representatives from Moscow State University to finalize a partnership in the biosciences, and climb mountains in Antarctica, Tibet, and the Caucasus.
An integral part of Struppa’s administration, Holisky has been with George Mason for 20 years as a professor of linguistics in the English Department. In 1997, she became associate dean for Academic Programs when Struppa was interim dean of the college.
“The focus for the next seven months will be on internal operations of the college,” says Holisky. “Our goal is to engage in a process to improve efficiency and effectiveness in our academic programs and administrative procedures.”
