George Mason freshmen Matt Cooksey and Jake Glanzmann each have received honorable mention on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America baseball team selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Center fielder Cooksey and left-handed pitcher Glanzmann are the second and third Patriots to be selected for the honor. Sophomore Jeff Palumbo received honorable mention accolades last season.
Playing in 55 of George Mason’s 57 games, Cooksey batted .280 with 11 doubles, 3 triples, 3 home runs, and 24 runs batted in. He led the Patriots and the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with 48 walks, and he paced George Mason with 34 stolen bases, 55 runs, and a .432 on-base percentage. His stolen base and walks totals rank second for a single season in George Mason history.
Glanzmann posted a 5-5 record with a 4.74 earned run average in 13 appearances, and he tied for second on the Patriots with four complete games. He tied for second on the team in wins and was third in ERA, innings pitched (81.2), and strikeouts (51).
