Patricia Nash, business manager in the Graduate School of Education (GSE), is the June Employee of the Month. Among her responsibilities are the school-wide management and coordination of GSE fiscal and business-related functions. Her dedication, technical competence, and leadership are among the qualities her many admirers praise time and again.

“Pat is widely known as the person who maintains high standards for financial reporting and budgetary decision-making,” says Jeffrey Gorrell, dean of GSE.

She is also respected for more than her budgetary skills. “It’s her ability to view GSE as a whole, to understand what is necessary to maintain integrity and strength over the long haul, and to have the courage to take the actions required to follow through on this understanding,” says Martin Ford, senior associate dean of GSE. “She has vision. She has precision. Perhaps most important, she has a moral compass.”

Nash returned to the workforce in 1985 after 18 years as a stay-at-home mom and life as a military wife. In 1986, she joined the College of Education and Human Services, which later became GSE, as assistant to Dean Larry Bowen.

“My current position evolved as the school changed and grew,” says Nash. “My job is the perfect job–challenging and rewarding work, interaction with interesting people, and a five-minute commute.”
