George Mason and the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) entered into an educational partnership agreement in a signing ceremony last week enabling the groups to work together in exploring ways to encourage and enhance studies in scientific disciplines.

The agreement teams the university’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) with the NRL’s Center for Bio/Molecular Science and Engineering. The partnership opens the door for collaborative research projects between the two institutions and better enables each partner to initiate laboratory equipment loans, expand student mentoring and internship programs, and provide research opportunities for students and faculty.

In the next year, NRL will present seminars at George Mason and begin providing assistance in the development of courses and related educational materials. University faculty members and students will gain access to work in NRL laboratories.

Daniele Struppa, CAS dean, and Vikas Chandhoke, CAS associate dean, played key roles in helping make this new partnership possible.
