George Mason freshman left-handed pitcher Jake Glanzmann has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Pitcher of the Week for baseball. The honor is the first for Glanzmann and covers games through May 5.
Glanzmann improved his season record to 5-3 as he rebounded from consecutive sub-par starts to pitch a four-hit shutout Sunday in a 4-0 George Mason victory over visiting CAA rival Virginia Commonwealth. The victory clinched a berth for the Patriots in the upcoming CAA Tournament (May 21-25 in Manteo, North Carolina) and was the first time in the last 67 games the Rams had been shut out. It was the first career shutout for Glanzmann and his fourth complete game of the season as he walked three and struck out four.
Glanzmann was a 26th-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies after completing his high school career at West Springfield, but he opted to attend George Mason. He has a been a fixture in the Patriot pitching rotation all season.
For the season, Glanzmann is tied for the team lead with 11 games started and 4 complete games; is second with a 4.44 earned run average, 45 strikeouts, and five wins; and ranks third with 71 innings pitched.
