This frequently asked questions column appears in the Daily Gazette every Tuesday. All questions originate from the green comment boxes located throughout the university, or are items brought to the attention of the Quality of Work Life Committee. Answers are supplied by the appropriate academic unit, department, or office. One question is answered per week.

Q: I am curious why George Mason does not have web registration with all of the add/drop options. It would be very convenient for out-of-state students. Any plans for it in the future?

A: The Registrar’s Office agrees that web registration would be a good next step for the university. That is one of the reasons that we look forward to converting our student system to the SCT Banner product, which will offer a full range of web applications. Over a year ago, the Registrar’s Office joined the Information Technology Unit in a significant effort to implement web registration in our existing system. The effort was unsuccessful because our current hardware would not support it. –Susan Jones, university registrar, x32446.
