Three Men’s Basketball Players Earn Postseason Honors

Men’s basketball players Jesse Young, Jon Larranaga, and Terrance Nixon have been selected for postseason awards by the two top web sites devoted to coverage of mid-major college basketball.

Young was selected as the Colonial Athletic (CAA) Association Most Valuable Player by Larranaga was given the “Mr. Hustle” award and Nixon was honored with the “Sixth Man” award in the CAA by

Young earned All-CAA first-team honors last week in voting by the league head coaches and media. He has been George Mason’s statistical leader for much of the season and averaged 14.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.0 blocked shots per game. He ranked eighth in the CAA in scoring, second in rebounding, fourth in field goal percentage and fifth in blocks.

Larranaga was named to the CAA All-Defensive and All-Academic teams last week. After ranking second in the league in steals last year, he ranked 13th with 1.36 steals per game and was second on the team with 38 this year. In addition, he ranked fourth on the Patriots with 10.6 points per game (21st in the CAA), second with 6.0 rebounds (13th), and 2.8 assists (14th) per contest.

Nixon ranked fifth on the Patriots in scoring at 7.8 points per game and added 3.4 rebounds per contest, while shooting .810 from the free throw line. He appeared in all 28 games, starting 9.
