Former George Mason basketball standout Robert Dykes (’91) will represent the Patriots as part of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Basketball Legends Breakfast that tips off the conference championship on March 2.
The past will meet the present at the 2002 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship. Each of the 10 CAA schools will honor a men’s basketball hero from the past. The breakfast is a new feature for the conference this year. Each legend will be appearing on Saturday, March 2, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Richmond Marriott and will also be introduced at halftime of his school’s first tournament game.
Dykes was a two-time All-CAA first-team selection and was named to the All-Rookie team in 1988. He is George Mason’s all-time leader in field goal percentage (.604) and ranks third all-time in CAA history in that category. Dykes holds the record for best field goal percentage in a season at George Mason (.633) in 1990-91. On Patriot career lists, he ranks third in blocked shots (111), fourth in scoring (1,642) and rebounding (925), eighth in free throw percentage (.785), and 18th in steals (96).
Tickets to attend the breakfast are $25. Call the CAA office at (804) 754-1616, ext. 11, to reserve a ticket, which must be paid for in advance and cannot be charged.
