Making its only Washington, D.C., area appearance, the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne performs at the Center for the Arts Sunday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Guest pianists Katia and Marielle LaBèque join this internationally recognized orchestra for the performance. An artistic discussion is held at 6:45 p.m. on the hall’s Grand Tier.

Under the baton of Semyon Bychkov, who became the orchestra’s chief conductor in 1997, the program features the virtuosity of the LaBèques on Toru Takemitsu’s Quotation of a Dream and Lutoslawski’s 1941 composition Variations on a Theme of Paganini.

While successful in Europe and internationally since 1947, the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne embarks on its first American tour this season. Its experience has been honed in performance of the world’s great masterworks and 20th century music. The LaBèques perform worldwide in recitals and record extensively.

Tickets for the WDR Symphony of Cologne are $50, $42, and $25. Charge by phone at (703) 218-6500 or visit www.tickets.com.
