George Mason junior forward Jesse Young has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for men’s basketball, for the week ending Feb. 17. It is the second time Young has been honored in his career.
Young continued his outstanding play this season as he helped lead the Patriots to a pair of CAA victories at home over conference-leader UNC Wilmington and third-place Drexel last week. Following a loss to William and Mary on Monday, George Mason is 16-8 overall, 10-5 and tied for second place in the CAA.
Young scored 33 points and had 19 rebounds in the two games last week while shooting .542 (13-24) from the field and .700 (7-10) from the free throw line. He had 13 points and 9 rebounds in the victory over UNC Wilmington, then recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds vs. Drexel.
For the season, Young leads George Mason with 13.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 0.9 blocked shots per game, and is ranked among the CAA leaders in each category.
