Mark Tuesday, Feb. 19, as the official grand opening date for the Arlington Campus Bookstore and Student Health Services. Both provide vital services to the Arlington Campus community.
The bookstore’s new location in the Original Building is still on the first floor, but it now occupies space about twice the size of the former location. While the new bookstore has its mainstays of textbooks and supplies, it also offers national campus bestsellers, George Mason University clothing and gift items, and the much-in-demand hot coffee and snacks. Photo IDs are also processed in the bookstore.
Presiding over the noon ribbon cutting ceremony will be Stanley Taylor, associate vice president of the Arlington Campus, and Barnes & Noble representatives Lynn Scoggins, Jack Smith, and Jeff Chappell. The Arlington Campus Bookstore also will observe faculty and staff appreciation day tomorrow with a 20 percent discount offered to faculty and staff. Refreshments will be served.
Student Health Services opens its Arlington office on Feb. 19 on the main floor of the Truland Building, Suite 150. This semester the office is open Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Depending on student need, the hours may be extended in the future. Student Health Services is available to current George Mason students from any of the campuses, regardless of whether they have health insurance, says Adult Nurse Practitioner Barbara Saladino. Most services are free, although there are minimal fees for select procedures and lab tests.
While Saladino will continue to be based at the Fairfax Campus a few days each week, she is eagerly looking forward to creating a Student Health Services presence at the Arlington Campus. She will be available tomorrow in the bookstore and in the Arlington I Atrium to introduce herself and answer questions. For more information, call Saladino at x34863.
