Gov. Mark Warner appointed Lovey Hammel, chair of the George Mason Foundation Board of Trustees, to the Advisory Commission on Higher Education. The seven-member board will review potential appointees to the governing boards of Virginia’s institutions of higher education, the State Board for Community Colleges, and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
The process for review will be based on merit, experience, sound judgement, and proven leadership. The commission will make its recommendations to the governor at least 20 days prior to the expiration of the term for which the commission is making the recommendations.
“These men and women, who have agreed to serve without compensation, will perform an invaluable service to higher education in Virginia,” says Warner.
