Student Government has created the Green Star Discount program, which will strengthen relations with local businesses and create more discounts and benefits for faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

The free program provides advertising on campus for businesses who offer discounts or other incentives to anyone who presents their George Mason ID or alumni card. The advertising includes e-mail campaigns, direct mailing, space in local and school newspapers, and space on the official Green Star Discount web site (users must have Internet Explorer).

More than 30 businesses have already signed up, including restaurants, salons, office supply stores, hotels, garages, and clothing stores. They can be recognized by the official Green Star Discount decal, which will be displayed at their stores. A complete list can be found on the web site.

“This program will not only save us money but it will improve relations with neighbors in the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County, as well as help foster a greater sense of community with the city, county and university,” says Bennett Smith, Student Government president.
