A memorial has been planned by the Student Senate to commemorate the fallen heroes from the Sept. 11 tragedy.

The Senate started accepting donations last semester for those who lost their lives and is now planning on making something more permanent. Senate chair Sarah Streett is working on a project that will allow students, and possibly campus organizations, to pledge donations to the memorial.

The plan is to create a grove of cherry trees on the Fairfax Campus, and donors will have the opportunity to purchase a tree for the grove. In addition, a marble bench will rest in the center of the grove. An epitaph to the fallen, as well as the names of the sponsors for the trees, will be etched on the bench.

“There’s a lot of things to work on right now,” says Streett. “We’re looking forward to it, and I think it will be an excellent way to remember our heroes.”

The cost of each tree is tentatively set for $200-300. Individuals or organizations may purchase a tree. For more information, contact the Student Senate at x32931
