The offices of Student Academic Affairs and Academic Support and Advising Services will merge on July 1 to form the office of Student Academic Affairs and Advising.
The two offices are both involved in supporting students’ academic progress and advising needs and already often work closely together. Among the responsibilities that will be shared by the two offices are advising of undeclared students, the University Scholars program, the Freshmen Center and University 100 courses, and the coordination of retention efforts.
By merging the offices, these programs will be able to be better supported and coordinated. While greater efficiency is expected, the main goal of the merger is to improve the academic guidance available for George Mason students.
A search for a director of Student Academic Affairs and Advising will be conducted during the spring semester, with an expected start date of July 1.
