The dancers of STREB will be flying, bouncing, and crashing off surfaces like giant atomic particles in a supercollider during a performance at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, in the Concert Hall. In Actionheroes, copresented with the Washington Performing Arts Society, Elizabeth Streb’s company introduces a cast of daredevil characters like Evel Knievel, Cannonball Richard, Philippe Pettite, and Annie Taylor (the hero of Niagara Falls) whose heart-stopping feats have far too rarely been acknowledged.
Streb pays homage to American stunt artists in a performance filled with outrageous acts and lyrical motion. Using video projection, narration, and music, in conjunction with the company’s trademark mobile performance space, the story of these daredevils and their heart-stopping actions comes to life.
An artistic discussion is held at 7:15 p.m. on the Grand Tier of the Concert Hall. Tickets for Actionheroes are $40, $32, and $20. All children’s tickets are half price for this performance. Charge by phone at (703) 218-6500 or visit www.tickets.com.
