Several Patriots Excel at Virginia Tech Invitational

Sophomore All-American Allen Simms led the Patriots last weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational, winning and automatically qualifying for March’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in both the long jump (26 feet) and the triple jump (53 feet, 61/4 inches).
Sophomore Brandon Simpson placed 5th in the 400 meters in 48.22 seconds to qualify for the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) Indoor Championships, while junior Serge Bengono finished 8th in the finals of the 60-meter dash in the IC4A-qualifying time of 6.86 seconds.
Sophomore LaToya Phillips led the women’s track and field team, placing 3rd in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. She posted a season-best time of 8.63 seconds to qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships.
Freshman Tysha Colon finished 10th in the finals of the 60-meter dash in a season-best and ECAC-qualifying time of 7.68 seconds.
