For the last several years, the university’s commencement program has included a student speaker. In an effort to expand the pool of students from which the 2002 student speaker is chosen and to connect this activity with academic programs, the Communication Department will offer Special Occasion Speaking (COMM 399-007) in the Spring 2002 semester.
This three-credit course, taught by Sheryl Friedley on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7:10 p.m., is open to seniors from all majors, schools, and colleges. It will provide an introduction to specialized situations, such as award presentations, introductions, eulogies, and commencement speeches.
Students interested in being the 2002 commencement speaker are encouraged to take the class, but enrollment is not required. For more information, contact the Communication Department at x31090.
