The Athletics Department will host “Be a Patriot” night to recognize the Northern Virginia community involvement in the relief effort during the recent Pentagon tragedy. The event will be at the Patriot Center on Saturday, Nov. 24, as part of the men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. This is part of a recognition week that will include a free Sports Clinic on Monday, Nov. 19.
The events during the week will serve as a benefit for the families of the victims at the Pentagon and as an opportunity to honor the police, fire, search and rescue, military armed services, and medical employees located in and around Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, and Prince William County. Also in attendance will be Northern Virginia public and private elementary school students and their families.
The women’s basketball team will host Tennessee-Chattanooga at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s team, which takes on Toledo at 7:30 p.m. A ceremony recognizing the community involvement will be held at halftime of the men’s basketball game. Following the men’s contest, a unique post-game autograph session will take place, with many of the rescue relief heroes signing mementos for local elementary school students who will be accompanied by George Mason student-athlete representatives.
