Rape Investigation Conference Held Monday

The George Mason Police Department and Sexual Assault Services cosponsor “Intimate Betrayal: A Practical Guide to Victim Support and Investigation of Non-Stranger Rape,” a one-day conference on Monday, Oct. 29, from 8:30 to 5 p.m. The event includes seven sessions on a variety of rape topics.
Connie Kirkland, coordinator of Sexual Assault Services, begins the conference with her presentation, “Barriers to Reporting for Sexual Assault Victims.” Next, “Recantation by Sexual Assault Victims” is discussed by Mary-Ann Burkhart, senior attorney of the American Prosecutors Research Institute. Danyelle Kirsch, intelligence analyst for the U.S. Department of Justice, follows with “Drugs Used to Facilitate Sexual Assault.”
Other sessions include “Pretext Phone Calls,” “Polygraph Examination of Rape Victims,” “From Cover-up to Collaboration: Coding Sex Crimes,” and “Effective use of Sexual Assault Response Teams.”
