The Department of Music presents the George Mason University Symphony Orchestra’s production of Faculty and Friends tonight at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Conducted by Professor Anthony J. Maiello, the event begins with the world premiere of faculty member Scott Martin’s new work, Overture for Hope, which memorializes Sept. 11 and the American spirit in the tragedy’s aftermath.
The program includes Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Verdi’s La Forza Del Destino, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Triple Concerto played by faculty members Peter Haase, violin; Loren Stephenson, cello; and James Nalley, piano.
