“Freestyle Mason Midnight Madness,” featuring the first George Mason men’s and women’s basketball practices of the year, expects to attract more than 2,000 fans to festivities that include pre-practice games for fans, spirit events, and interactive competitions. Mix in dance routines from the nationally recognized George Mason cheerleaders and Masonettes Dance Team, innovative multimedia introductions of the basketball teams, and an atmosphere that promotes family fun and student spirit, and the stage is set for a resounding welcome for another Patriot basketball season.
Midnight Madness will be held tomorrow at the Patriot Center. Doors open at 10:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
This year’s “freestyle” theme promises to provide excitement and entertainment for all who attend. Among the preliminary events are “Musical Freestyle,” performed by the Masonettes, as well as video clips from the men’s and women’s basketball student-athletes. The late-night session will end with brief scrimmages by both teams. The Patriot men and women, who are coming off their best combined seasons in school history, will be introduced at midnight, the first allowable time for organized practice in the NCAA.
