The School of Information Technology and Engineering (IT&E) expanded its advisory board from 9 to 30 members this fall, making it the largest advisory board on campus.
The move was taken “to engage many more people in the school’s activities,” says dean Lloyd Griffiths. Board members are industry leaders in information technology and engineering companies; many are CEOs, presidents, and senior vice presidents. The advisory board is a communication link between the corporate sector and IT&E, and its responsibilities include providing suggestions for future initiatives at the school; providing advice and counsel on academic programs, teaching, and research; and assisting in fund-raising.
The board in place prior to the expansion stays intact as the executive committee, with Tom Hewitt, founder of Federal Sources Inc., as chair. The full board will meet twice a year and smaller subcommittees will meet more frequently to address specific issues.
