The George Mason University softball team is planning a cultural and competition trip to Australia during winter break from Dec. 27, 2001, to Jan. 7, 2002. The team will spend 12 days in Sydney and Cairns, a resort near the Great Barrier Reef.
The team would like to share this opportunity with the George Mason community. The cost for the excursion, which includes roundtrip airfare, deluxe hotel accommodations, local transportation, tours and some meals, is $2,560, and a portion of each package sold will go toward helping reduce the cost for the Patriots.
“This is an opportunity of a lifetime for the girls,” said George Mason head coach Beth Fulcher. “It’s a great experience culturally, plus it will benefit our team to play against some quality competition. And anyone who would like to go with us can go for an excellent rate. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.”
George Mason’s itinerary includes tours of Sydney and Cairns, a New Year’s Eve celebration in Sydney, visits to several of the sites from the 2000 Summer Olympic Games and trips into the areas surrounding the two cities. The Patriots are scheduled to play four games against club teams from Australia, which has traditionally handed the United States its toughest international competition.
Registration for the trip is required by Sept. 26. To register or for more information, call TranSports at (877) 754-8726.
