George Mason’s Office of the Provost and Women’s Center are among the sponsors of “A Summit on Women and Distance Learning in Higher Education,” set for Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon in Mason Hall. Presented by the American Association of University Women in Virginia, the summit will focus on the needs and interests of women when it comes to using the technology of distance learning.
One highlight of the summit will be the release of research on women as online students conducted by Cheris Kramarae, a renowned scholar of women’s communication and learning styles. A panel comprising Belle Wheelan, president of Northern Virginia Community College; Timothy Luke, university distinguished professor in political science at Virginia Tech; and Anne Raymond Savage, vice provost for distance learning at Old Dominion University, will lead a discussion of this research.
