According to the Office of Enrollment Planning, a total of 9,272 students attended classes at George Mason this summer compared with 8,843 last year. The increase in numbers also accounted for a jump in full-time equivalent students (FTEs) from 1,551 last year to 1,643 this summer. The office’s FTE goal for this year was 1,600.
Of the students who took summer classes at George Mason, only 13 percent were new to the university. Greater collaboration with the university’s academic units on the part of Renate Guilford, enrollment planning director, and a more aggressive marketing campaign were among the different strategies pursued this year to try and bolster summer enrollment. Other efforts included redesigning the summer schedule of classes and placing greater emphasis on customer service.
