Cathy Evans, assistant director of the summer term in the Office of the Provost, is the September Employee of the Month. Evans’ responsibilities include budget management, web site development, marketing promotion, and office management, as well as acting as a university-wide liaison. Before joining George Mason seven years ago, Evans worked for an education center in Belgium that served the U.S. military.
The many letters supporting Evans’ nomination praised her for being a highly professional team player committed to providing the highest level of customer service for the university. “Cathy is truly an exceptional employee, completing her duties in the most efficient and effective manner. She always goes the extra mile, providing a positive attitude and demonstrating her commitment and dedication to George Mason University,” says Renate Guilford, director of enrollment planning and summer term.
“I enjoy working with people–the students, faculty, and staff,” says Evans. “I like working to ensure that their needs are taken care of.” According to Guilford, Evans is driven to improve the services that the summer term provides to students. As a student herself (she expects to graduate this fall), she responds to the issues of her fellow students. Evans developed an online survey for the 2001 summer term that received considerable positive feedback and helped to shape the summer schedule.
Evans redesigned the 2001 summer schedule of classes based on students’ requests, one of which was to move the most important information–the listing of courses–to the front of the schedule. She also modified the printing specifications to include a better paper at no additional cost.
