George Mason golf coach Linda Gaudi has qualified to compete in the First Union Betsy King Classic in Kutztown, Pa., this weekend. The tournament, an event on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour since 1996, began yesterday and runs through Sunday at the Berkleigh Country Club.

This is the third LPGA event in which Gaudi has competed. She played in the 1991 Phar-Mor Classic and last year’s First Union Betsy King Classic.

As a member of the LPGA and LPGA Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) Division, Gaudi may attempt to qualify for a tournament in the local area once each year. She traveled to Berkleigh Country Club Monday and shot a round of 80 to qualify for this year’s tournament.

“I really enjoyed the experience last year and hope to do better this time,” says Gaudi, who has not made the cut in either of her previous LPGA Tour appearances. “I always get a thrill competing in these events, and I just want to relax and play my best.”
