Robert Nakles, formerly supervisor of instructional technology for Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), becomes director of the new Information Technology Project Office today. Nakles’ office is located in the Johnson Center, Room 106.
As director, Nakles will assist Joy Hughes, vice president for information technology (IT), and lead special projects, especially those that require the involvement and commitment of staff outside IT.
“Bob’s first task will be to work with the central offices currently doing web development to create a virtual web office, which will provide one-stop shopping for people with web development needs,” says Hughes. “He will also be working with the University Budget and Planning Group to cost out the central IT components needed to support the new budget initiatives submitted by units throughout the university.”
Nakles served LCPS for 28 years, and guided the system through a major expansion in computer and technology use. He was responsible for equipment, installation, training, and implementation of computer networks in 10 new schools in the rapidly growing county. He also supervised the instructional technology plan and coordinated the technology steering committee, a broad-based group that advised on issues related to the technology plan. Nakles has a master’s degree in educational communications and technology from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
