The Arlington Campus hosts the first of three nationwide ergonomics forums today at 9 a.m. and tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. The U.S. Department of Labor sponsors the public hearings where interested persons can discuss possible approaches to addressing ergonomic hazards in the workplace.
President Alan Merten is the first speaker today and he will introduce Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao. The other forums will be held at the University of Chicago on July 20 and at Stanford University on July 24.
The forums are part of an initiative by the Department of Labor to create a new and comprehensive approach to ergonomics that is appropriate to the 21st century workforce. Following the hearings, the department will review the information obtained and develop a plan for addressing ergonomics injuries in the workplace.
