Students in the upcoming class of 2002 are paying less for their senior year of college than they paid as incoming freshmen in 1998-99, according to a new study conducted by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). Total tuition and all mandatory fees at public four-year colleges and universities in Virginia are increasing by 2.4 percent, less than the rate of inflation, the study says.
“By all measures, tuition and fee rates for Virginia undergraduates in academic year 2001-02 clearly show the commonwealth’s success in moderating the cost of an undergraduate education,” says John Padgett, SCHEV chairman.
