Mason Baseball Player Earns National Recognition

George Mason freshman second baseman Jeff Palumbo has received honorable mention on the 2001 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team as selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Palumbo had a solid first season at George Mason. He was the only Patriot to play in all 53 games, starting 52, and batted .265 with six doubles, two triples, and 24 runs batted in. Palumbo led George Mason with eight sacrifice bunts and 12 bunt singles, ranked third on the team with 11 stolen bases and 33 runs scored, and he tied for fourth in triples. He also made just six errors in 251 chances for a .976 fielding percentage.
George Mason completed the 2001 season with an overall record of 21-32, 5-15 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
