How to rebuild a peaceful society out of the catastrophe of years of conflict is the focus of a two-week workshop sponsored by the Organization of American States (OAS) at George Mason University, June 10 to 22. Hosted by the Institute of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (ICAR), sessions will address the means for post-conflict reconstruction, re-integration of combatants, and local mediation services. A special two-day workshop on negotiation skills will be included.

A dozen government officials and civilians involved in conflict resolution will come from 10 South and Central American countries. Workshops will be run by ICAR professors and doctoral students, George Mason’s School of Public Policy, the Northern Virginia Mediation Service, the Meridian Institute, and Fairfax County Public Schools. Between workshop sessions, participants will visit the World Bank, Barrios Unidos, the U.S. Institute of Peace, and OAS.

Workshop sessions are closed to the press and public.
