On Wednesday, May 30, the Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center participates with more than 1,500 locations around the country in the eighth annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day–the nation’s largest health and fitness event for older adults. The free event runs from noon until 4 p.m. and is open to all adults over the age of 50.

“We are excited to participate in this event and have planned a fun-filled afternoon with an emphasis on encouraging older adults in the community to engage in regular activity, either inside or outside a fitness facility,” says Dianna Purvis, Freedom Center wellness coordinator. “The health benefits of regular activity that improve the quality of one’s life are numerous.”

The program offers health screenings, a target heart rate clinic, fitness testing, seated massages, and seminars on nutrition and health education. There are demonstrations in yoga, golf, and racquetball, and aerobics, aquatics, and SPIN classes. Door prizes and giveaways include a free personal training package, a six-month membership package to the Freedom Center, health assessment packages, and other gifts and prizes.

Freedom Center membership is not required for participation in the health and fitness day or the awards program. For additional information call x38518.
