The 16th annual Spotlight on the Arts Spring Festival (April 20 through May 13) featured more than 40 performances, activities, and special events presented by more than 30 of Northern Virginia’s most recognized and emerging artists and arts organizations. They included the Virginia Opera, George Mason Dance Company, the U.S. Marine Band, Fairfax High School music and drama programs, and the Fairfax Art League.
Sponsored by the City of Fairfax in cooperation with George Mason University, Spotlight on the Arts continued its commitment to support and encourage the awareness of local cultural opportunities. Spotlight has grown steadily from a weekend program to more than three weeks of festivities, and is considered one of Northern Virginia’s premier arts events. With opera productions, orchestra performances, fine art exhibitions and juried competitions, dance presentations, theater, education programs, student films, and community activities, the 2001 festival continued to shine on the region’s arts and cultural events.
