Michael Bellinghoven, an information technology manager in University Computing and Information Systems (UCIS), is the May Employee of the Month. Bellinghoven, a George Mason employee for 11 years, began his career at Mason in 1990 as a wage employee and quickly moved through the ranks into a classified employee position. Before coming to George Mason, Bellinghoven worked as a customer service manager at Win Laboratories.
Bellinghoven manages five classified employees who support the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Information Technology and Engineering, the Graduate School of Education, and the College of Nursing and Health Science (CNHS). He also supports New Century College and maintains, repairs, installs, and upgrades computers and phone systems.
“What I like most about what I do at George Mason is the interaction with the people, it’s definitely a community — a family,” says Bellinghoven. George Mason is Bellinghoven’s family both literally and figuratively — his brother, David Bellinghoven, is a network engineer in UCIS, and his mother worked for a short time in CNHS.
The many letters supporting Bellinghoven’s nomination cited his positive attitude, professional demeanor, and his role in moving the New Century College computer lab from the Johnson Center to Enterprise Hall. Janette Muir, associate dean of New Century College says, “Even with varying annoyances in the process, Mike always handled problems with a smile and a willingness to find a solution.”
