Computer Science Senior Named “Top Techie to Watch in 2001”

Dennis Pereira, a senior who will graduate in May with a degree in computer science, has been named one of five “Top Techies to Watch in 2001” by Pereira was nominated by James Chen, assistant professor in Computer Science. Chen credits Pereira with not only being an excellent student, but a leader who organized and motivated more than 80 qualified students to join Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the computing sciences honor society at George Mason.

Pereira, a George Mason University Scholar, completed an internship as a computer science assistant, working under a grant provided by the National Science Foundation. He is currently a Perl programmer with Litton/TASC in Herndon.

Pereira is the only student selected as a “Top Techie”; the other honorees are executives who work for,, Byte Back, and Community IT Innovators.
