Mason Faculty Salaries Higher than National Average

Faculty salaries at George Mason University are slightly higher than the national average, according to a survey conducted recently by the Chronicle of Higher Education. Based on the numbers in the university’s current fact book and those listed in the April 20, 2001, edition of the Chronicle, a comparison of average faculty salaries is as follows:

  • Professor: $99,524 at George Mason, $84,007, national average;

  • Associate Professor: $69,120 at George Mason, $60,571, national average;
  • Assistant Professor: $51,211 at George Mason, $50,635, national average; and
  • Instructor: $43,377 at George Mason, $35,210, national average.

Throughout the nation in 2000-01, the Chronicle reported, the average pay of faculty members beat inflation for the fourth year in a row.
