The Department of Public and International Affairs (PIA) has appointed Lawrence Walters as the new director of the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) program. Walters joins George Mason from Brigham Young University, where he is currently an associate professor.
“We are very excited about having Larry Walters join us-he’s a great catch for us,” says Scott Keeter, PIA department chair.
Walters attended Brigham Young as an undergraduate student and received a B.A. in public policy analysis in 1981. He earned his Ph.D. in public policy analysis and management in 1987 from the University of Pennsylvania.
As a nationally known scholar on tax policy, public finance, and research methods, Walters has led a successful career as an academic administrator. “Finalists for the director position included high-ranking members of the Clinton administration, the General Accounting Office, and others with distinguished records of scholarship and public service,” says Keeter. “He was our department’s first choice after a search last fall.”
