The week of May 7-13 has been designated as Virginia Public Service Week (VPSW) with the theme “Proudly Serving Virginians.” During this week, each agency’s departments are encouraged to plan events to recognize employees’ achievements and hard work for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

As part of this week’s celebration, a statewide program will recognize state employees through the “Governor’s Awards.” Agencies nominate employees to receive monetary recognition and to be honored at a ceremony hosted by Gov. Gilmore on May 8. There are seven categories for this award. Nominations, due by April 24, may be submitted electronically by accessing and following the links to the nomination forms and categories. Award recipients will be determined by the Virginia Public Service Reward and Recognition Steering Committee.

Also, to share in the celebration of VPSW, 35 employees will be selected as “Ambassadors” to participate in the ceremony honoring those selected for the Governor’s Awards. The ambassadors, who will be selected from a random drawing, will say thank you to the award recipients on behalf of all state employees. The ambassador request form can also be accessed on the above web site. For more information on VPSW, email
