Hundreds of events around the nation will mark April 6 as the 14th annual National Student-Athlete Day, including activities sponsored by George Mason University.
To celebrate the proclamation, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosts a student-athlete recognition luncheon on campus at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Field House Hospitality Room.
The ceremony recognizes a wide spectrum of awards and honors that spotlight student-athlete achievement in the classroom and the community. They include the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS) Courageous Student-Athlete award, Life Skills nominees, the George Mason Peer Athlete Liaison program, Colonial Athletic Association Randolph Inspiration, Dean Ehlers award winners, and the top George Mason student-athlete GPA for each class.
National Student-Athlete Day honors student-athletes and the network of parents, coaches, teachers, and school systems who make it possible for young people to strike a balance between academic and athletic achievement. Established by NCAS and Northeastern University’s Center for the Study of Sport in Society, this special day is co-sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
