The spring 2001 Visiting Writers Series continues with a reading by writer Kate Wheeler tonight at 8 p.m. in the Johnson Center, Room 116. In 1996, Granta magazine named Wheeler one of the 20 best novelists under 40 in America – before she had even written a novel. When she finally did publish her first novel in 2000, When Mountains Walked, the book went into a second printing before it even hit stores. Wheeler, an ordained Buddhist nun, is a frequent contributor to Outside magazine and was a 1994 PEN/Faulkner Award finalist for her first book, a collection of stories titled Not Where I Started From.
The Visiting Writers Series is sponsored by the Creative Writing Program in the English Department. For more information, call x31180.
