Business and Professional Development Courses Available Online

Essential management skills, high-impact business writing, and the foundations of e-business and e-learning are just a few of the topics covered in the SkillSoft Business and Professional Skills E-Learning Library, a new online resource now available to students, faculty, and staff members. The computer-based training curricula include more than 200 business and professional development modules.
The courses are divided into 18 subject areas: administrative support, business law, communication, customer service, e-business, e-learning, finance, human resources, knowledge management, leadership, management, marketing, operations, personal development, project management, sales, strategic planning, and team building. Each course takes approximately two to four hours to complete.
The university obtained access to the library through an agreement with SkillSoft, a company that develops and markets technology-based education products. George Mason alumnus Jerry Nine, SkillSoft’s vice president of worldwide sales and marketing and a founder of the company, arranged for the university to use the curricula. The Division of Instructional Improvement and Instructional Technologies (DoIIIT) and University Computing and Information Systems worked together to set up George Mason’s online access to it.
The George Mason community can access the courses through the university’s SkillSoft web site. Interested faculty members may also consult with DoIIIT’s Instructional Resource Center on ways to incorporate the courses into existing classes.
