In the 28th season of George Mason women’s basketball, the Patriots have accomplished what no other team has managed to do: make it into a postseason tournament. The Patriots have accepted a bid into the postseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) and will host their first-round game versus crosstown-rival Georgetown in the Patriot Center on Wednesday evening. The specific time is yet to be determined.
The WNIT features the top 32 teams who did not make the 64-team National Collegiate Association Tournament.
“We are thrilled to be included in this group of teams,” says head coach Debbie Taneyhill, the Colonial Athletic Association coach of the year. “We are happy to be playing at home and hope to take advantage of the opportunity ahead of us.”
The winner of this game will take on the winner of the James Madison University/Temple University game on a date yet to be determined.
