Heather Murray, a case specialist in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Student Academic Affairs Office, has been named the March Employee of the Month. During her 18 months as an employee in the office, Murray’s professionalism and sensibility have helped the George Mason community on a daily basis.
Murray’s responsibilities include speaking with students, informing students about school policies, and acting as the liaison for the deans and the students. “Often, students who must come to the dean’s office are under a great deal of personal and academic stress,” says Daniele Struppa, CAS dean. “Heather works with these students to understand their cases and directs them to the best course of action, with a calming touch.”
For Murray, the best part of her job is “working with the students and helping them.” In her Employee of the Month nominations, Murray is repeatedly praised for her technological research capabilities that fall outside the realm of her job description. Her insight into the analysis of the office’s e-mail system contributed to a new standard of efficiency and significant data compilation for one of the dean’s professional research projects.
Before coming to George Mason in 1999, Murray lived in Erie, Pa., and worked in the voter’s registration office for Erie County.
